Lost paradise at The Westport Arts Center

“Lost Paradise”
My work is a meditation combining personal and cultural history on utopian dreams in two parts: landscape and metaphoric abstraction. My abstract landscapes are environments of mental habitation filled with icons that either I have adopted or developed. My work combines personal histories, ghosts, and gods that have engendered and perhaps abandoned these environments. My images range from the obvious to the eccentric, and the social to the personal, to purposely create a new, ambiguous reality. My work goes across a spectrum of concepts and stylistic approaches. It walks from narrative to purely abstract; from stones and trees to nests and migrating birds; from drawing to dripping without concern, from individual feelings to general concepts. It may seem a bit scattered, but with scrutiny the common threads binding the work together become apparent. My body of work titled Lost Paradise becomes an area layered in concepts of ideas, texture, and color. Paradise is the place we will always look for, but we will never find, as answers to enigmatic questions.

Opening Reception: Friday, January 23 from 6:30-8:30pm.

Cardinals Screen

Nature and Birds, Colors and Textures, brunches and Trees.
That seems to be my current inspiration.
As the birds came to the feeders that we have in our garden as my imagination capture them for ever in a fest of dance and music that last for ever!
This is a piece done on recycled doors. Screen that will horld for ever the sound of the wins on my birds flying around!

Recent Watercolor

Inspired by the Spring that you can face now, and by my remembers of the last one in Manhattan and the views of Central Park and the Hudson River Bank, I am creating a series of Medium Size Watercolors.

First Winter and Mixed Watercolors

My First Winter in Connecticut...was hard to see!
All that beauty and transformation of nature around me!
All those snow storm that we had that years...birds migrating, trees resting for a long winter night!I started to collect maps, and some others organic elements that I incorporated to my papers and then painted on the top of them!
It was such a creative and fun process to me!
Changing my life and my work too!
I remember...going to the Train Station in New London and taking maps for free there. Back to the studio gluing them in pieces and painting...!
That was January 2004!

Art of Transition!

Between worlds!
That is how I can explain this works I did between 2002-2003-2004!
Living in the a house build ed of adobe in the Cordillera de Los Andes in Santiago de Chile and moving to the United States.
That was a shock to me in the way that I question myself about my whole life, my heritage, mi destiny and my mission in life.

Fiesta

I was invited to paint a piece called and about Fiesta,
So I did...

“Fiesta”
Fiesta means holiday, celebration
and party in Spanish. It is a word
that inspires this work; a word rich in
deep meanings. In Peru, my own country, there are about 3000 typical fiestas
celebrated every year. At the time of painting “Fiesta,”

I imagined bodies seduced by the senses and the music
throughout this history. I saw happiness as an abstract
concept where even contours and emotion can be seen
and this atmosphere turns the present into happiness and activity.

I did a piece and show you the process that took place for months!
You can see the layers of colors as layer of though that cross my mind too
!
